The Spirit Realm
Long before the physical universe existed, the spiritual universe existed. This is the Realm of Angels. The Bible doesn't reveal the names of many angels, but it does name three important members of the Angelic Realm called archangels. God administered his government through three archangels named Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer. These archangels are mentioned throughout the Bible, but one archangel in particular is the key to understanding current world events and to solving an important paradox. The Bible is like a jig saw puzzle. The clues to mysteries are scattered throughout its passages. In the Old and New Testaments is information that must be brought together in order to solve the puzzle. According to the genealogical records of the Bible, from the time of Adam to the present day is less than 6,000 years. An apparent paradox exists if one is to believe God created the heavens and the Earth around 6,000 years ago while science has proven the Earth is billions of years old. A clue lies in a letter written by the Apostle John during the time he was exiled on the island of Patmos. This book is called Revelation, and it is the account of a vision God used to reveal important information to John about the end time.
Revelation 12:3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. 4 His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the Earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. 6 The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days. 7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the Earth, and his angels with him. NIV
An ancient pre-historic War of the Angels resulting in one third of the Angels being banished to Earth was revealed to John in a vision. Revelation 12 is part of a pair of chapters that show the past, present and future in one comprehensive, sweeping vision. What is the cause of this awesome war that involved a great Dragon and Michael the Archangel? Clues to this tremendous pre-historic event are given in the Old Testament.
Ezekiel 28:11 The word of the LORD came to me: 12 "Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "`You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. 14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. 16 Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. 17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the Earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. NIV
In Ezekiel 28, God is recorded as comparing the King of Tyre to a fallen guardian cherub. What began as God's awesome creation of perfection, wisdom and beauty became a being of violence and wickedness. The name of this mighty cherub is revealed in Isaiah.
Isaiah 14:12 How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart: "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High." 15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. NKJV
This once Holy Archangel fomented rebellion and led one third of the Angels to invade Heaven in an attempt to take over the Government of God. Because of the war in heaven, one third of the Angels became demons. This devastating tragic event is more than an interesting footnote in spiritual pre-history; it is a key to solving paradoxes as well as understanding the woes of mankind.
