The Reluctant Messenger

Paul

Paul: Good friend and confidant to Chester. Paul is in the Book version of the Website as is Tina, Lydia's friend.

Paul nudged Chester. "Come on buddy. You usually don't drink before a debate. Come on let's go, we can't be late."

Chester tipped the glass back and swallowed the rest of his scotch. "Hey, one drink to calm my nerves is good not bad." Chester glared at his friend.

Paul shook his head in concern. "This gal ain't any better than the others. Now that we found the flaw in her purported proof-of-God paper she's been winning with this year, you're a sure win. Why does she make you so nervous?"

Chester laid a five-dollar bill on the bar as he slid off the barstool. Gathering up his stack of notes he said, "Look, before she came along the best argument against evolution was the statistical one. Now there's a paper written by mathematicians claiming to prove God wrote Genesis. The judges love new approaches regardless of how hairball they are. Besides, sometimes judges go for the new ideas just to look impartial so they can stay on the circuit." Chester and Paul headed out of the bar into the main lobby.

"If you stay on the plan we came up with, you will win." Paul pushed through the crowd heading toward the escalators that led up to where the debates were being held. He looked at his watch. The gun control debate should be ending at four o'clock. He turned to tell Chester that they had time to go over the rebuttal before he had to be on stage. His friend wasn't behind him. Peering over the crowd, he saw Chester heading back toward the bar.
